Anago was recently featured in Building Services Management titled, “Anago Unveils New Brand Taglines”. The article talked about the introduction of the new brand taglines for consumer and franchise development. In the article, it focused on new Master Franchisee, Ad Hanna, who came up with the new consumer tagline. Overall, this was a great brand piece in a top trade publication showing Anago’s growth and that the brand welcomes ideas from within its system.

Anago helps change perception

Efforts underway to change perception of Decatur

Making Decatur an attractive place to live and work, especially for young professionals, has long been an issue facing city leaders. It was something the former 501 Club was created to address. For a time, the 501 Club was increasing in popularity and doing its part to fill the void. The group faded away, leaving behind the issues that the city and its employers face. There has been talk about restarting a similar organization.

The most recent effort that has gotten underway is the Decatur Young Guns. It is a group that has formed on Facebook. Leader Jared Kennedy said he wants the group to focus on providing a social outlet for young people, especially those either returning to Decatur or those moving into the area for a job. He said it can often be tough to meet people of a similar age and establish the connections that make the area a desireable place to live and stay.

The group held two events on Friday evenings in February at Paco's Sol Bistro and Doherty's in downtown Decatur. Kennedy said both had strong attendance, surpassing his expectations. He would like for the group to hold similar events and is interested in hearing what others might be interested in doing.

Having places and times to socialize is just one way in which the perception of Decatur is going to change. High on the list is adding more retail establishments so it doesn't seem as necessary to travel elsewhere to find a variety of places to eat and shop. The city's economic development officer, Patrick Hoban, is trying to get a handle on what is most wanted and see if he can target those businesses in his efforts. However, it seems like everyone's top businesses are different, depending on their tastes and interests.

Finding somebody with the qualifications, especially financially, is one of the challenges franchises looking to locate in Decatur have said they face. Once somebody is found to lead a business, there appears to be interest in locating in the area, whether it's a service-based business such as Anago Cleaning Systems or retailer like Pet Supplies Plus. Hoban said companies remain interested in statistics about the area's demographics, so he's working to be able to provide what information he can. His job is to work with companies that would provide businesses that people want, while the Economic Development Corporation of Decatur and Macon County is trying to attract businesses that are most needed with good-paying jobs.
